Douglas is the founder and Producing Artistic Director of The Fern Shakespeare Company. As such, he has served as producer on every production over the past ten plus years.
For twenty years, Douglas has worked in nearly every facet of the theater industry. His career has been guided by the following unwavering principles: Artistic excellence, inclusion, and a resolute commitment to elevating the voices of marginalized communities on and off the stage. His mission as is to promote cultural diversity and to strengthen and serve his community through performance and education.
As Producing Artistic Director of the Fern Shakespeare Company, Douglas has championed open casting practices and created opportunities for men, women and trans actors in both classical and contemporary work. The mission to make theater a space of empowerment and representation, remains at the core of everything he does. Under his leadership, Fern Shakespeare grew its audience base, deepened community engagement, and established partnerships that supported emerging and established artists alike.
Throughout his career, Douglas has worked tirelessly to build meaningful connections across the national theater community through organizations such as Actor’s Equity, The Shakespeare Theatre Association as well as the playwriting community and regional theatres. These relationships have enriched every project, opening doors for collaboration and innovation.
